It’s been just over two months since I moved to Uppsala, and it continues to be my favorite place to have lived in Sweden so far. The last month has been quieter than the first, with not as many university events to drop in on over the holidays. But now things are starting back up, and I’m having to pick between attending two lectures that are on at the same time next week:
- One about the impossibility of free will
- Another about the ethics of AI
How am I supposed to choose between two of the most interesting topics they could possibly come up with?! I guess I’ll have to try to rustle up some free will to make a decision. Or maybe the decision is already predetermined, and the dilemma is an illusion…
But even though there haven’t been many university events to attend, I’ve been busy. Hiking with friends, practicing Swedish, organizing short story fikas (the next one features Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes), baking, gymming, writing, and other very nice things have been consuming my attention. Uppsala presented some pleasant surprises, and the last month kind of flew by.
I still need to work on the apartment. I’ve been taking it slow with furnishing and such. I think I’ve picked out a couch, but need to go choose the material in person and it’ll take about 14 weeks after that to arrive. Today I’m going to go check out a second hand store that seems to have lots of good furniture for shelving/storage.
I continue to commute to Stockholm twice a week, to our new office in Odenplan. It’s a really nice train ride and the new office is cozy.
All in all, aside from being very behind on my accounting, I have nothing to complain about and feel like moving here has so far been one of the best decisions I’ve made since coming to Sweden.
