Running to the edge of the world (Gamla Uppsala)

I took a run to the grave mounds at Gamla Uppsala today. It probably wasn’t the wisest decision, distance-wise - I hadn’t run properly in years, and this was a 7km run there, a walk around the grave mounds followed by a nice recharge fika at Odinsborg, and then a 7km run back.

Gamla Uppsala is beautiful and a little bit eerie. As I mentioned before - on a misty day it kind of feels like the fabric of the universe is on the verge of tearing a little there. There is one other place that has given me this feeling, and that was Glastonbury Tor.

When I had first decided to move here, I first looked at an apartment in Gamla Uppsala, before ultimately settling in Rosendal instead. I made the right choice; Gamla Uppsala just feels like the kind of place that you need a house in. Not for any practical reason exactly, but to take full advantage of that little ‘cottage on the edge of the world’ feeling.

Ultimately Rosendal turned out to be exactly the right place, but I look forward to many more runs to appreciate the towering grave mounds… if these poor calves survive this one ;)
