I’ve been in a kind of hyper-busy mode before Christmas. Mostly that has translated into work, but there are also quite a few other things happening.
Working on my final Frontiers in Life Sciences presentation
The course is coming to and end, which means it’s time for my final assignment - a 15-minute presentation on a paper of my choice.
It was the perfect opportunity for me to dive deeper into a topic I’ve been fascinated in for a long time - bioelectricity and how it can dictate large-scale anatomy. I need to do a couple of practice rounds for the presentation, might post a video here later. But in the meantime… a sneak peek, maybe?
Christmas Movie Night in Gothenburg
Last week I went to Gothenburg for one night to meet some old friends for a Christmas Movie Night. We watched Die Hard and Klaus. Both great - but Klaus… Klaus was just incredible and I want to see it again.
Biohacking session on focus
Yesterday night a friend and I went to a biohacking meetup about mental focus. We talked about the basics - diet, exercise, sleep, etc., as well as focus ‘amplifiers’ in the form of supplementation, mindset switches, etc.
I take quite a few supplements which I believe help with focus, but for me the two things that have most noticeable effects are:
- Caffeine + L-Theanine OR mate (short term - minutes/hours)
- Exercise (medium/long-term - hours/days)
Running
Still running - I had a couple of easy weeks with only 2 runs instead of my usual 4. For the winter I’ve decided to target 2-3 runs per week. A sort of maintenance mode, I guess.
I also signed up for a 6km winter trail run at the end of January. Eh… we’ll see about this one.
Cognition Lab
I participated in a cognitive test studying memory and visualization at the Cognition Lab here in the city - it was pretty interesting and maybe helped me answer my own earlier question about whether I think more in words or images.
Course admission results
I’m on the waiting list for my first preference, a cosmology-related course, and admitted into a course on good and bad science.
Coming up: Nobel Prize Lecture - Economics
This Saturday morning I’m planning to attend a lecture by one of the winners of the 2025 Nobel Prize in Economics, Philippe Aghion. The prize was awarded for his work in creative destruction - how innovations make established industries obsolete.
So much to learn, so little time - a nice problem to have. All of this is of course powered by copious amounts of caffeine.
