My 5 favorite opening lines from books

Posted on June 6, 2012 | 1 minute read

For some reason I felt compelled to go through my (pretty small) book collection and pick five of my favorite opening lines. Here they are:

5) “When you have to kill the same terrorist twice in one week, then there’s either something wrong with your skills or something wrong with your world. And there’s nothing wrong with my skills.”

_Patient Zero _by Jonathan Maberry

4) “As always, before the warmind and I shoot each other, I try to make small talk.”

_The Quantum Thief _by Hannu Rajaniemi

3) “Accidents ambush the unsuspecting, often violently, just like love.”

The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson

2) “It was a dumb thing to do but it wasn’t that dumb.”

Sunshine by Robin McKinley

1) “Ignatius Martin Perrish spent the night drunk and doing terrible things.”

Horns by Joe Hill
