Game of Snails in all its barely-playable glory
Well, it’s the end of the month and I have to post something for May. Despite Game of Snails being broken and nigh-unplayable, I’m posting it anyway. If you want to check it out, here are some disclaimers:
I make no guarantees about the security of the database. You have to create a username and password to play, so just make a dummy account that isn’t in any way linked to your personal information.
There are no instructions provided and it’s not really intuitive. The gist of it is - put snails in the breeding jar (at least two at a time) to breed, click on the checkered flag to view and create races (and see race results).
If I haven’t already made it clear - this thing is majorly buggy. Everything from text that’s too long for its background to races not updating until you manually refresh them. Heck, we might (read: will) even see some server crashes.
I have literally only run this game in Chrome Canary and have no idea if it will even load in other browsers. I also have not tested it with multiple users online concurrently…
To refresh the race list/see results of a race you entered (or see new entrants), you may need to close and open the races menu (by clicking on the race flag icon). Don’t just sit there and wait for the thing to update on its own across all clients without a refresh. It most probably won’t.
You have been warned. Here’s the link! Oh and GitHub.
For the month of June I may work on something smaller as a break from snailing before coming back to this. Or I may just keep going. We’ll see.
